LOG
Feel Onomichi with all five senses
Renowed architect Bijoy Jainʼs Studio Mumbai renovated LOG in a modernist apartment block midway up a stone stairway to Senkojiʼs panoramic view over the city. Featuring a hotel, café & bar, gallery and shop, this place where time flows slowly lets visitors feel Onomichi through all five senses.
LOG is meant to slowly light up the hillside of Onomichi, creating a welcoming place where visitors on vacation and local residents cross paths. The six guest rooms are covered with handmade washi paper on the floors, walls, and ceilings, allowing the light to softly filter in and gently envelop guests. Meals are supervised by chef Ai Hosokawa. Guests can enjoy breakfast in the dining room where the sun shines through the trees, while dinner is prepared as a course meal using local ingredients including seasonal vegetables and fish. The café serving sweets made from Setouchi fruit and a library overlooking the Onomichi waterway complete this warm place in harmony with Onomichi’s history, culture, nature, and scenery.

After working in Los Angeles and London, returned to India in 1995 to found Studio Mumbai, which won the Global Award in Sustainable Architecture in 2009 from the French Architect’s Association (L’Institut Francais D’Architecture (IFA)) and a special prize for his “Work Place” installation at the 12th Venice Architecture Biennale in 2010. Designed LOG as his first construction project outside of India in 2018. He is currently teaching at the Accademia di Architettura in Mendrisio, Switzerland.
