This year for the first time ever, guntû passed beneath the Akashi Kaiyo Bridge en route to its first port call in Osaka on August 20, in anticipation of two special routes to explore Setouchi’s history of maritime culture and commerce.

The following day, a ceremony celebrating guntû’s first visit to Osaka was held on board. Osaka Mayor Hideyuki Yokoyama and Osaka Convention & Tourism Bureau Chairman Hiroshi Mizohata presented a commemorative item.

Over many centuries, the sea has linked together the islands of Setouchi and Osaka.
guntû will sail onward on its unhurried and peaceful journey across the Japan’s most storied waters.
